The late Gilbert Oldershaw MBE started farming in 1946 in South Lincolnshire. From humble beginings with only a very small area of land, he and his family went from strength to strength over the years. By being at the forefront of technology and innovation within his field, Gilbert pioneered the way in which alliums are grown and nurtured today.
Supermarket business followed and today his business serves many of the major high street retailers. But why should they be the only ones to benefit from Gilly's years of experience which have been passed on through three generations?
Today, his company deals with over 40 farmers across the country. Each one is known personally, and the origin of every onion, garlic or shallot is traced right through the process to the point where we are able to tell you which field the crop came from, when it was harvested, what pesticides were used and at what levels, even who applied them. The list is endless of the information which we know about our crops because we are passionate about provenance, serious about safety and quintessantial about quality.
Everything we have learnt about serving the likes of Waitrose, Sainsburys, Asda and the Co-operative over the years is applied to all of Gilly's Choice products.
